Information for Visitors
To enter the Library, it is necessary to agree to the Instructions for On-site Use of the National Diet Library (PDF: 92KB).
Visiting Hours
The opening hours of the Tokyo Main Library are 9:30 to 19:00 (17:00 on Saturday). The time limit for requesting materials and same-day photocopy service is 18:00 (16:00 on Saturday). Also considering the time needed to find material titles and call numbers, your sufficiently early visit is recommended.
Attention
- Visitors are not allowed to carry into the Library bags, envelopes or any other opaque containers 7x10 inches (17x25cm) or larger. There is no size restriction to transparent bags and acrylic cases, in which you are recommended to put writing instruments, purses, valuables.
- Please turn cell-phones to silent mode in the NDL building and speak on them only in the designated areas.
- Personal computers, word processors, sound-generating pocket calculators may be used in certain designated sections of the Library. Outlets are available.
- Smoking is prohibited on the premises.
- Visitors carrying a lunch box or other foods with them may eat in the designated area. Eating and drinking while using library materials are prohibited at all times.
Parking
Although there is a parking lot for 29 cars in front of the NDL visitors' entrance, visitors are recommended to use public transport. Two parking spaces is allocated exclusively for the physically handicapped. Bicycles and motorcycles can be parked in the 'two-wheelers' corner of the parking lot.
We regret that the NDL cannot provide information about whether the parking lot is full.
User Card
The user card is required when searching, requesting, receiving, returning and having materials photocopied; you should not lose or damage it. (Caution! Do not leave your user card in the user terminals, etc.). Please notify the staff at the nearest counter or at the Entrance Counter if the card is lost.
