Q
Can I request copies of materials without visiting the NDL?
A
Photocopies of materials held by the National Diet Library can be requested without visiting the NDL by using our remote photoduplication services. This service is available for a fee to patrons who are able to specify the exact pages to be copied using article names, chapter names, or page numbers. In addition to having photocopies delivered by courier or postal mail, you may also choose to receive copies by downloading a PDF file. Photocopying fees differ per the materials copied and delivery method.

Q
I would like copies of some articles or photos, but I do not know which materials contain these or the relevant page numbers. Can I apply for remote photoduplication services?
A
Requests for remote photoduplication services must include clear instructions on which pages of a material are to be copied. To make a request for remote photoduplication services, you must provide information that specifies the material to be copied and the volume, number, title of article, or pages. For specific examples of the information necessary, please see Requirements for requests (courier or postal mail / PDF file download) of the Remote Photoduplication Services section of the NDL Search Help Page.
Please note that some articles can be found via the NDL Search and photocopies requested directly from the table of contents or the title of the article.
You can also confirm the content of the material you wish to copy by using the NDL's reference service (assistance with materials) via a local library. First, please inquire with your local library.

Q
Can I check in advance how much I will be charged for remote photoduplication services? Also, are the fees the same for receipt by courier or postal mail and PDF file download?
A
You can check the approximate cost by using the fee estimation page on the application screen as well as referring to Photocopy Fee Chart (Remote photoduplication service).
If you do not know the total number of pages to be copied or the size of the materials, etc., and would like to check the copying fee in advance, please see the following page before making a request.
The fee also differs depending on the delivery method.
  • Courier or postal mail
Total cost of copying fees, packing fees, and postage (at cost)
  • PDF file download
Total cost of copying fee (unit price) and compensation to copyright holders
Incidentally, when comparing the total cost of receiving by courier or postal mail and downloading PDF file, in many cases, receiving by courier or postal mail is likely to be the least expensive even after considering packing fees and postage.
