Kyoka Edo meisho zue.Edited by Tenmei Rojin. Illustrated by Utagawa Hiroshige. S.l.: s.n., 1856? 14 v. in 7. <200-140> This picture from the end of the Edo period shows the outside appearance of Nagasakiya. The writing says, "Nagasakiya Redheads' Inn" and the kyoka (comic tanka poem) in the picture is about the "kapitan" and red-haired people (Westerners, especially the Dutch). The last journey of the chief of the Dutch factory entourage to the Edo court was in 1850, and not long after this book was published, the mission of Nagasakiya came to an end with the signing of the Dutch-Japan Treaty of Peace and Amity. |
