Seiyo zasshi. (Regular image 078-003)

This is Japan's first periodical. It is a bound by a paper-string into a booklet, and was mainly translated from Dutch academic journals. It was published by Western studies scholar Yanagawa Shunsan (1832-1870) who was a professor at Kaiseijo, and Western studies scholars at Kaiseijo, such as Kanda Takahira, assisted with the editing. The purpose of publication was written at the end under the name of Izumiya Hanbe, the publisher. At first, it was a monthly publication, but publication temporarily stopped after Volume 5, and then ended with Volume 6 in 1869 by the death of Yanagawa. Belonged to Nunokawa Collection.
